“Sometimes You Need tough Love” - Dr Jess Blomfield

How do you know when to quit and when to keep going?

By surrounding yourself with smart mentors who will support you when you need it, and who are brave enough to give you tough love when it’s called for.

We learned so much from the incredible Dr Jess Blomfield of Airtree Ventures in this interview for EVEN. Jess has been part of some of Australia’s most incredible, fast-growing tech start-ups, including Go1 and Faethm AI.

She now has a front row seat to some of the most innovative ideas and companies being built through her role as Head of People and Culture at Airtree Ventures.

In this interview, Jess reflected with us on one of her most challenging decision-making moments in her career: She was doing a PhD but it had gotten really hard, isolating, and no longer felt worth it.

But, her straight-talking mentor encouraged her to persevere with the phrase:

“No one cares that you’re going to have a half-finished PhD”

Jess now looks back on that moment and the fact that she did persevere as a source of strength.

Sometimes, we need other people to help us re-connect with what we’re capable of. That’s exactly why we’re building the community at EVEN.
